WEEK 1 = Check in and wrap up

My thoughts about the past week
This week flew by so quickly, but I feel like I've been at the gym for like forever. I feel so at home. All the staff are very friendly, as I enter the gym every single day, I would always be welcomed with bright smiles from the reception desk, the gym general manager, to the gym trainers and the group exercise instructors. I even made a friend in my Zumba class. She's very very nice, I wasn't able to get her name though, but she always looks forward to seeing me in Zumba class, even giving me a tidbit of what the other GX classes are all about. During my first week, I only had 2 rest days. I finished my 3 personal training sessions from my BodyFirst package, and I gotta say, I terribly miss having someone to amp up my workouts, sort of a cheerleader and a mentor rolled into one. Whenever I see my BodyFirst PT Gian around the gym, he would always greet me with a warm hello and check on me on how I'm doing with my routines and workout. I don't feel like I lost him though, but the 1:1 session is a big detail on my routine that I terribly miss. ON my first week, I was also able to try the Group Exercise which is A-W-E-SOME!! In the weeks to come, I plan to try more GX classes as I found it boring to roam around the gym picking random machines to do reps on. But I still manage to do the mat exercises Gian taught me during the BodyFirst sessions, like the lower ab exercise, ab crunches and side crunches.. I loooove stretching!! Whenever I reach a bit farther than I did before, it's like a micro-accomplishment for me. I love the fact that I can now reach beyond my toes, I can mount my foot on the stretching spot at head level without losing balance and still with comfort. I haven't tried any yoga class though, but I will soon as Gian highly recommended their offerings to me, especially the HotFlow. But I plan to first attend an introductory class as I haven't done yoga for a couple of months. I don't wanna startle my body doing another exercise I'm not used to at the moment. So, I only attended the gym 5 days ths week, 3 days with Gian for the BodyFirst session, my fourth with Tuesday when we tried Zumba, and my 5th day (Friday) was just Zumba class. I plan to minimize my treadmill and elliptical machine time as I now find it a little dull and boring now that I've tried GX, and by the way, the results were just as good! After the Zumba class, I was sweating profusely!!! And it's an entire hour = 60minutes of non-stop groovy dance moves you just can't help but dance along even if you're catching your breath. In the coming weeks, I will be trying BodyJam (which was highly recommended by my new found Zumba co-attendee), BodyPump (Aldrin, the gym manager recommended this to be a fun way to approach weight training as it incorporates light weight to fun, easy to follow aerobic dances and upbeat music), and BodyAttack, a high-intensity cardio exercise. I am so excited especially this week, Tuesday will be joining me in the gym so I never have to workout alone! SWEET!
Over the past week, here's what I've noticed about:
  • The fit of my clothes : not much can be visibly noticed about my entire body, but I did measure myself during the first week of November. However, I only started attending FF 10 days after I got my first measurements. That's my first point of comparison. I noticed that my clavicle and upper chest bone have become a teeny tiny little bit more chiseled than before. My cheeks shrank just a little bit and as my friend, Stephen noticed, my neck is slightly smaller now since he last saw me (which was on Oct.13 during the bday of our god daughter.)
  • My sleep patterns : not much has changed, except that even though I had just a couple of hours of sleep, I haven't been as lethargic as I was compared to when I was not working out. Gian told me about this. He said that when one works out, the sleeping hours improves quality as exercise promotes deep sleep. So even if I only had 4-5 hours of sleep, every minute of it has been maximized because my breathing pattern is regularized, my blood circulation has improved and the deep sleep just does it all. SO energy amps up when you wake up!
  • My energy level : Like I said, my energy level is surprisingly up despite my irregular and most of the time, underslept nights. It's amazing how a little exercise can do thinking I've only worked out for 5 days.
  • My skin : Breakouts on my skin have dramatically minimized. My overall skin is softer and smoother, especially that day when Tuesday and I stayed in the steam room and sauna for about 15 minutes each. We didn't even put lotion on our skin after, but it was soo silky smooth and soft. It's rosy without the blush on, as we comically put it.
Measurements :
I will be asking Gian tomorrow to measure me on the Tanita weighing scale to see my progress for the week. I'm not expecting any big drop on my numbers. I just wanna know that somehow, I managed to shake those numbers to move even for just a quart decimal. I did measure my body with a tape measure. I'll be posting a screen cap soon! =)
My biggest temptataion
I would have to say the biggest challenge I had to face was to arrange my schedule to fit in all my activities in the day, especially now that I'm singing twice a week now, and I'm planning to add more nights to my sched. I really have to learn to manage my time in a way that I won't jeopardize my gym routine. I don't want to put my money to waste. Another big temptation is food, of course. After a tiring day at the gym, I would crave for something delish to fill me up. I've been trying to minimize my rice intake, even if I now eat brown rice. I still wanna limit my carbs intake but I won't entirely eliminate it from my diet as it is very important especially that I'm doing a lot of high intensity cardio. I would need the energy bigtime!
My best compliment
This week, the best compliment I must say would have to be that moment when the Zumba instructor, Alfred, when he was walking his way out of the gym, he noticed me in the lounge, smiled at me and even asked me how I am. It made me excited and at the same time, flattered that even though I've only attended his class once, he noticed me and he remembered my face enough to smile at me and approach me. Because of that moment, I would always attend Zumba classes, AT ALL COSTS!
My proudest moment
My proudest moment this week was of course  when Aldrin officially welcomed me as a a bona fide member of Fitness First megamall. I have a lot, actually. When Gian repeatedly praised my flexibility and endurance during our BodyFirst sessions and when Tuesday decided to join FF. There's also another proud moment when I saw my college classmate and good friend Gia in the gym, checking everything out and was also set to join FF!! Yayy!!! The party is becoming bigger and bigger! Dada is also planning to join in the months to come, so as my best friend, Norman who plans to join next month after our Baguio conference! I am soooo excited!! This is gonna be so much fun!!
My challenges and goals for the upcoming week
Right now, I still don't know my progress for my first week in the gym, but I'm not expecting a big number drop. My challenge to myself for the upcoming week is to regularize my sleeping habit, limit my rest day to just once every week, and to try 1 or 2 new GX and incorporate yoga in my weekly routine. This week is just an introduction and adjustment period and I believe my 2nd week is an extension of my adjustment period here at Fitness First. I want to formulate a doable routine especially on my weights so I won't be wandering around finding something I vaguely recall from the BodyFirst sessions. My goal is to pull down my weight to 130 lbs. I hope I can reach that number at the end of the week! Wish me luck, folks!
My reward for a week of progress
This is for next week. If I do manage to pull down my weight to 130lbs, I would treat myself to a nice body massage and body scrub. This coming Saturday, I'll be joining the HSBC Anniversary run with mon cherie, Lionel, so a whole body massage after would just fit in perfectly.
That's all for now folks.. =)
sexy, sil vous plait
