Charice-Mania

Ok, before a Charice fan comes bashing on me and calling me all the nastiest names there is, I would just like to strongly imply that THIS IS NOT A HATE BLOG! Ok? So chill. Make love, not war!

Haha, so much for a disclaimer. Just some bad experience I had once before, so I don’t want to argue with commenters over and over again over my act of free expression. So let me get down to business.

I love Charice. Hmmm, maybe the word “LOVE” is a bit too much right there. Let’s just put it this way. I commend how she proudly flags the name of the country and wherever she goes, her heart and loyalty remains grounded on the Philippine soil. I am inspired at how such a girl in her teens can make the whole world listen to her and believe in her capabilities in spite of her imperfections. Her voice, on the other hand, is rather commendable. Truly remarkable, but not that astounding. See, in my opinion (which others may or may not agree with), I view Charice as a victim of the Filipinos’ weakness, or should I say “sickness” of what is known as “birit” syndrome. I mean, admit it or not, we’ve grown up listening to our elders belting the songs of Air Supply, Aerosmith, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. Anything that breaks our eardrums, any sound immeasurable by decibels is “uh-mazing” for us. Haven’t you noticed the growing culture of television singing contests, or barangay amateur singing contests even. Those are just a few of the breeding grounds of the “birit” syndrome victims. And Charice is no different. The only thing that did good for her was that she was able to birit her way to Ellen, to Oprah, then to Hollywood, thanks to the blessing of youtube. That scenario happens only once in a blue moon.

Going back, Charice, I would say, is a patriotic young lady. She never forgets her roots. Everybody knows that.

Yes, that’s what I first thought, too, until I saw these videos on youtube that she posted herself.

As I was browsing through the recent posts of my friends on facebook, I caught sight of what seems to be Charice’s newest single called Pyramid. I clicked it to check it out, redirected me to Charice’s youtube page, watched it and liked it. (See video) Kind of reminded me of Jordin Sparks’ No Air. Then, I went looking around and watched her message to Tampa, Florida. (see video)

I’m sure you noticed that she’s a little bit overdressed for a message on youtube, and over made-up as well. I don’t want to judge her alright? There may be some valid reasons to it, but I can’t help but notice the drastic changes in her behavior, the way she speak, her mannerisms, her expressions, her spontaneous choice of words. This girl on this video doesn’t seem to be the Charice that the Filipinos, Ellen and Oprah loved. She’s grown to be a little ostentatious IMO. And one more thing, I know her agent or promoter might have made her say some script of whatev, but I just couldn’t help but notice how unnatural her accent was. She was just trying too hard to put american thwang on her English which caused her to stutter and mispronounce some of the words a number of times. Seeing her other videos, I observed that she’s really changed.

People also seem to notice how the sweet, modest Charice changed into some average narcissistic American teenage girl. Here are some of the viewers’ comments.

flipinaaax3 : I don’t like Charice, but only I like the song Pyramid. Butyeah, to me she’s become mayabang because of the fame. I don’t know. She also seems really maarte..

chan168chir39 : cha, stay in d US 4@least a yr 2work on ur English diction & grammar. Ur going 2b an international singer! In any parts of d world u go2, u’ll b interviewed & u should @ least b able 2answer questions confidently. Also, u can surely afford eye contacts now, but try not 2wear colors dat don’t fit Asians! Please don’t overly fixed-up urself w/ so many unnecessary things i.e. heavy make-ups, in hoping of making urself look good, yet u end-up looking not a “real u” anymore!

freecsdagr8orion : charice should really work on her diction so the lyricscould be understand by just listening to the song. we just got used to her singing famous songs that why we dont have to know or try to understand what shes saying cuz we already know the lyrics. thats what i expirience in her note to god song. i have to look for sub lyrics below the screen.

I think Charice should find time out of her busy schedule to read those comments on her youtube upload. This isn’t doing anything good to her career. And by the way. did you know that Charice is now berated as a racist. Yes, you read that right - a racist. A teenage Filipino girl accused of discriminating other races because she always addressed her vlog and vmessages to, yes, Filipinos. I did a further reading, and discovered that some foreign fans felt alienated because of her special treatment to her mother country. Well, that was shocking, and funny! LOL! In defense of Charice, I don’t believe she discriminated anybody in any way whatsoever just because she had her message addressed to a particular nationality. It’s clearly a message for the TFC subscribers. But I guess you can never win an argument with a jealous person because they started bringing up the argument that not all TFC subscribers are Filipinos. Some are Americans too, and they too, want to be invited by their idol to her upcoming show. I can’t debate with that. They do have a point. But raising the issue of racism is just plain comedy. Racism is just not in the system of a Filipino. Agree or agree.

I really hate to say it, but you know what they say about reality. It bites. Too much of everything is just not good, especially for a 16-year old girl. Trying to fit in when all you do is stand out and there really is nothing you can do about it coz you have no other choice. Choosing a path and knowing there’s no going back is a difficult ordeal to any person in this world.

My advice to Charice if ever she happens to tumble on my blog:

Never lose sight of your heart. If others cannot love you because you cannot be what they want you to be, believe me, they never will, not for any reason at all. Better have a song and have no public than to have a public and have no song. The moment you become what others want you to be, that’s the moment you lose yourself.
